Prior to his downfall as a Major in the Australia Army due to his duty in France, he is was deployed to Iraq and up to shit. He was being "bloody disgusting" with a female US Army officer. Which caused the US Army officer to research him and reach out to this partner back in Australia to warn her of his behaviour.
