Taylor Bree Tomarra: Scamming Elderly People on Facebook

Taylor Bree Tomarra describes herself as a boss lady and full-time Mum. She went to Pioneer State High School in Mackay, QLD and now lives in Brisbane City.

After being caught steeling bottles of alcohol from a local shop back in 2013, Magistrate Damien Dwyer told Taylor;

"You just have to wake up to yourself"

Well she has not listened because now she involved with scamming people on Facebook (mainly the poor, unwell and elderly).

This is her Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) Gift Card scam.

The playbook

Taylor finds her victims on Facebook and then cold messages them. Asking how you are and that she saw your name on the DHHS list when she was there getting her benefits. She was lucky enough to get $50,000 and want to help you get your money!

She will then send you the link to the scam Facebook page acting as a (poorly put together) Government Organisation page.

Once she has confirmed that you messaged the page asking for your benefits, she will block you.

The mystery Agent William Davis

If you just search this Agent William Davis on Facebook, you will find heaps of profiles all with the same name and same profile picture. This tells me that there are a lot of people running this scam and are all using the same script and pictures.

The Agent will write in all capitals because they are using the "Government System" after asking some basic questions and checking their data base, they will find you in the system. To see if you have money entitled to you they want some personal information for you:

• MALE/FEMALE.......
• DATE OF BIRTH.....
• PHONE NUMBER....
• E_MAIL......
• MONTHLY INCOME......
• YOUR PICTURE..........

To make you feel comfortable they will event make it clear that this is not a scam!

THIS IS LEGITIMATE AND WILL BE HONEST WITH YOU, SO A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY BENEFITED FROM THIS PROMOTION AND THEY CAN'T STOP THANKING US FOR WHAT THE LORD HAS DONE IN THEIR LIFE I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT THIS IS FOR REAL.

Well I feel pretty safe now. So I went on a AI fake person picture generator and used a random fake identity generator to get all the information required.

A few more checks of their data base and YES, I am a match!

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WINNING AS OUR VERIFICATION TEAM ALERTS THAT YOUR DATA VERIFICATION PROCESS WAS SUCCESSFUL.YOUR CASH IS $50,000 THOUSAND DOLLARS. WE ARE GOING TO FORWARD ALL YOUR INFORMATION TO THE FEDEX DEPARTMENT FOR THE DELIVERY OF YOUR MONEY....

The purpose of the scam

It is my honest option that the goal here is to collect information which could be used for identity thief. I also have the feeling that at some point you'll be asked to buy Gift Cards in order to complete your application for the $50,000.

The money on the gift cards will then be stolen by the scammer master mind and some kicked back to Taylor for recruiting the victim.

Update:

I was right.

After a lot of back and forth, they finally asked me to go and buy a $200 Apple Gift Card so they can finalise my money. Looks like someone if trying to save up for a new Apple phone.

I will continue to play around with this person to see if I can get more details for them. I have a feeling they might slip up if they believe I have a gift card ready to go for them.

Who is the mastermind?

I ended up getting an email how of the Agent by it was not linked to any breach data or social accounts that I could find.

I imagine that they just made the email after I asked for one.

This is either someone that Taylor knows that is copying a scam that other do. A possible James Williams born in 1993.

Or this is ran by this man:

He is the only person to leave a review on the Agents page, so he no doubt set the page up. He is then getting people like Taylor to help get victims.

Update

I ended up convincing the scammer to send me their phone number, so I can send the Gift Card information on Whatsapp. The country code for the mobile number was Nigeria.
